Baguette Quartette is returning for the fifth year in a row for our very popular Bastille Day Waltz Ball. Many French waltzes, polkas, La Java, Valse Musette. French 'bistro music', great fun. Usually about 250 attend. French costume highly appreciated. Baguette Quartette plays many wonderful joyous waltzes that lift the spirit. We are having them include their favorites La Java and Valse Musettes. The band plays from 9pm to midnight. Karen Tierney will teach some fun French waltzes and French mixers from 7pm to 9pm in the main Ballroom. Karen speaks French, has been to France many times and has danced to and has learned many original French dances. She was a past member of Danse Libre and coordinator for the Friends of Dance at Stanford committee. Tom Hill teaches an introductory waltz class from 7pm to 9pm in the adjacent ballroom. To get the most from this class, try to start at 7pm. Excellent first time class. A dance partner isn't necessary. Partners are rotated while in class, and ballroom dancing is a venue where men and women are encouraged to ask each other to dance. Wear soft-soled, enclosed, low-healed shoes as the dances involve traveling around the line of dance and are often fast paced. $20 for dance and class, $12 for students.
